Bruising

Purpura is bruising of the skin. There are many causes of this bruising including those types commonly seen in elderly patients due to thinning of the skin. Bruising can also be a sign of an internal disorder where the platelets and/or clotting factors are abnormal. For unexplained bruising, a systemic work up is necessary with blood work.
