Pemphigoid

Pemphigoid refers to a group of autoimmune blistering skin diseases. Bullous pemphigoid is the most common type, and can cause large, tense blisters on the skin and severe itching. It requires systemic treatment and the expertise of a trained dermatologist. Cicatricial pemphigoid (mucous membrane pemphigoid) is a more rare form of pemphigoid which can have serious implications. It can cause blisters in the mouth, nose, throat and eyes. There are many treatments for both forms of pemphigod, including system steroids, antiinflammatory antibiotics, dapsone, and immunosuppressants.
