This is a common affliction in women. Irritating chemicals in lotions, cleansers, and moisturizers may seep into the pores causing an irritation of the underlying hair follicles or glands. This produces a raised, bumpy rash resembling acne and can have associated redness, dryness and flakiness. Treatment includes avoiding irritants in this region, using mild moisturizing lotions, and anti-inflammatory creams. Oral antibiotics are often important and occasionally ultraviolet light therapy can be beneficial. This condition can last 2 to 3 months before resolution.
