Kybella

Kybella for Double Chin

An injectable treatment to reduce submental fat

We are excited to offer Kybella to our patients! Kybella is the first and only FDA-approved injectable that reduces submental fullness (or double chin). Submental fullness is frustrating because it is typically resistant to diet and exercise. It can be influenced by aging, genetics and weight gain, but most often it is a genetic trait that people struggle with even when they are young. Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells when injected into subcutaneous fat. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat so further treatment is not needed once the desired aesthetic result is achieved. With over 2,600 patients studied, Kybella has about an 80% patient satisfaction rate, and the treatment has relatively little downtime and discomfort.

Downtime: Temporary mild-to-moderate swelling, injection site discomfort and possibility of bruising and areas of hardness.

Maintenance: Most patients require 2-4 treatments, spaced about 6 weeks apart.

Cost: The price for Kybella varies, depending on the number of treatments required.

What is Kybella?

Kybella (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that is used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called "double chin".

How does Kybella work?

The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat.

Is Kybella right for me?

To see if you are a good candidate for Kybella, please call our office at (407) 352-8553 to schedule a Kybella consultation. If you are a candidate for Kybella, we will work with you to develop a treatment plan.

How many people have been treated with Kybella?

Kybella has been the focus of a global clinical development program involving over 20 clinical studies with more than 2,600 patients worldwide, of which over 1,600 have been treated with Kybella.

Will I experience any side effects?

The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness around the treatment area. Kybella can cause serious side effects, including trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can cause facial muscle weakness.

How many treatments will I need?

During a Kybella consultation, we will customize your Kybella treatment plan, including how many treatments you need, based on your desired chin profile. Many patients experience visible results in 2-4 treatment sessions. Up to 6 treatment sessions may be administered spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

How long will the results last?

When injected into the fat under your chin, Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After the desired results are achieved, retreatment with Kybella should not be needed.
