Sclerotherapy

Still the most effective treatment for superficial leg veins and spider veins, sclerotherapy is a simple and only mildly uncomfortable procedure performed by injecting polidocanol or Sotradecol solution into the vein, causing the vein to swell, stick together and close. The byproducts are then naturally resorbed by the body. Compression hose are recommended for the first 24 hours and two week post treatment. Most patients can expect 80-90% improvement. Downtime is minimal. There may be some bruising that lasts a few days and slight brownish discoloration that can last several weeks. Rarely, a scab may develop at the treatment site. Scarring is an extremely rare complication. It is recommended that patients have at least 2 treatments, usually spaced 8 weeks apart.
