Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing helps to reveal a smoother, younger look. Laser resurfacing can reduce the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, and superficial scarring. At Sand Lake Dermatology Center, we offer skin resurfacing with a carbon dioxide (CO2) or erbium fractional laser.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacial
Photofacial is a non-invasive procedure that uses the remarkable technology of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). IPL is one of the most popular light sources used to improve the signs of sun damage and discoloration, rosacea and brown spots. The most common areas treated include the face, neck, chest, and hands. Patients should expect mild post-procedure stinging, redness and swelling. Brown spots will become darker and fall off in about one week. Multiple treatments are usually required on a monthly basis. Once desired results are achieved, maintenance treatments are recommended 1-2 times per year.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Hair Removal
Whether for hygienic or cosmetic reasons, women and men who are tired of temporary, often painful methods of removing unwanted hair on the face, back, legs or other body areas may welcome IPL hair removal. IPL produces highly focused, intense beams of light which are effective in reducing unwanted hair growth. Dark pigments in the hair follicles beneath the skin’s surface absorb this light and convert it to heat, destroying the follicles and preventing hair growth for up to two years. Patients with dark hair and lighter skin are the best candidates for treatment. The patient can expect anywhere from 50-70% reduction in hair growth after a series of 3-6 treatments. Hairs that do grow back are usually smaller, lighter and less noticeable. Maintenance treatments may be needed.

The excimer laser is an FDA approved device shown to be effective in treating diseases and cosmetic problems where the color in the skin has been lost, such as vitiligo. It is also quite effective in the treatment of localized psoriasis. For vitilgo, best results are seen on the face and neck; however, multiple treatments are required. It may take 10 or more treatments to see improvement in plaques associated with psoriasis, and 40-50 treatments for vitilgo.
Non-ablative Erbium Laser
Fractionated, non-ablative erbium laser treatments effectively target wrinkles, scars, stretch marks and skin resurfacing. Patients can expect redness and swelling for up to a week after treatment. Multiple treatments spaced four weeks apart are recommended for optimal results.
